It seems probable that William and Mary C Henderson had at least thirteen children.

JAMES H HENDERSON (1807-1843)

Their first son and first child was named James H Henderson. He was born on the 09th of February 1807. In each case where there are descendants alive today who are interested in each branch of this family of William and Mary C Henderson's family, we will list that family researcher/s. Data about James H Henderson was shared by Mrs. Virginia Bengston of 266 Meadow Rd., Santa Cruz, CA. 95060 and Mr. George Fox, 4707 Wildleaf Ct., Charlotte, NC 28212.

BURTHENA HENDERSON (1808-1852)

The second child, a daughter, was born on the 23rd of October 1808 and named Burthena. She married John Yett (18??-1874) and today the family historian of her descendants is Dr. Fowler Yett of 5028 North Carmel Dr., Mobile Al. 36609.

WILLIAM ALEXANDER HENDERSON (1810-1843)

The third child of William and Mary Henderson was believed to be a son named William Alexander Henderson who was born on the 20th of March 1810 and passed away on the 1st of October 1843. He is buried in Shiloh cemetery in a grave east of the grave of William and Mary Henderson. There is a field stone marking his grave but the writing is very difficult to read. Minnie Moore Underwood gave information presented here to Burl Underwood who wrote The Underwoods from Roaring Gap (NC) to Dumplin Valley (TN) and Onward , published in 1975. In that material it read that William A Henderson of Henderson Springs sector of Sevier County Tennessee married Sarah Underwood (1820-1873). Their first child a son George Preston Henderson was born 25th of March 1842 and their second child also a son, William A Henderson was born 16th of March 1844. The second son, named after his father was killed in the Civil War in 1863, near Murfresboro, TN. His brother, George Preston reportedly died of grief over the death of his younger brother, he died in 1864. William A Henderson Jr. was a Pvt. in the Union Army and is buried in the National cemetery in Nashville. Sarah married Perry Cate on 08 October 1848. He was a son of Joshua Cate of Dumplin Valley. Sarah Underwood was a daughter of George(1791-1865) and Elizabeth (Kymes) (1791-1855) Underwood.

GEORGE McLin HENDERSON (1811-1878) AND MARY HENDERSON (1811- )

George McLin Henderson was the fourth child of William and Mary Henderson a twin was the fifth. George McLin Henderson was born 20th of March 1811 and a twin was a daughter named Mary Henderson was born on the same day. Mrs. Paul Rogers of RR #1, Box 427 Charleston, TN 37310 supplied us with a great amount of information about this branch of our family. Katherine Rogers wrote a booklet about this branch of the family. Other members of this branch of the family, who gave us information, include Miss Carroll Henderson of Knoxville, TN. and George Henderson of Gadsden, Al.

JOHN KENNON HENDERSON (1813-1876)

Their sixth child was a son, who they named John Kennon Henderson. He was born on the 19th of January 1813. No known living descendants have been traced. Work needs to be done on tracing these family members. A son named William Henderson fought for the South and was killed in action.

ELIZABETH HENDERSON (1815-1860)

Their seventh child was a daughter who they named Elizabeth probably after her Grandmother on her father's side. Elizabeth never married and lived most of her life with her parents.

RANDELL BRUSTER HENDERSON (1816-1886)

Their eighth child was a son who they named Randell Bruster Henderson. He was born on the 09th of October 1816. The late Mrs. Ruby Sims of Sevierville, TN. Ruby was the historian of this branch of the family. Ruby wrote a booklet about this branch of the family.

ANDREW HENDERSON (1818-1897)

The ninth child also a son was named Andrew Henderson. He was born on the 13 of January 1818. Most of the information about his life and descendants came from the late Rex Andes, of Knoxville, TN. Andrew Henderson (1818-1897) married Sarah Pickle we do not known of any descendants of the Pickle family.

ELIJAH HENDERSON (1820-1898)

The tenth and last son born to William and Mary Henderson was named Elijah Henderson. He was born on the 12th of February 1820. Several descendants of this branch have contributed information. These include: Marvin Henderson, Paul Henderson, Clarence Henderson, the late Conley Henderson, the late Ray Henderson Sr., Ray Henderson Jr., the late Mel Henderson, all of Sevierville and Bobbie Manuel 3701 Green Lane, Knoxville, TN 37931; Don Henderson of Marysville, TN and many other members of this branch of the family.

 

DICEY HENDERSON (1821-bef. 1860)

A daughter named Dicey Henderson was the eleventh child born. She married William H Pickle and two children named in William Henderson's (1786-1860) Will. Dicey had passed Away prior to William's death with occurred in 1860.

MARTHA JANE HENDERSON (1823-1900)

The twelfth child was also a daughter who was named Martha Jane Henderson. She married Samuel Swann and they lived in Jefferson county, Tennessee. We do not know anyone who has data on this family, although, several children were born to this marriage. The Swann family in Jefferson County has been there a long time and several members married into the Henderson family.

NANCY L HENDERSON (1827-1897)

According to our information the thirteenth child born to William (1786-1860) and Mary C (1786-1872) was a daughter who they named Nancy L Henderson. She was born on the 13th of December 1827 and died 30th of November 1893. She married James McMahan in Sevier County and they had ten children. We obtained information from several sources within the McMahan family and from Henderson family members who now live in Sevier County.

After we are finished with the material collected about our family we intend write a book and then deposit all of our information in the Knoxville McClung Library, in Knoxville, TN.

We suggest that if other family members want to contribute any information that we make this

Library the depository of all Sevier County Henderson family articles, data and other information. In this way anyone interested in Henderson family history would travel to Knoxville to look for information.
